And I Yelled, I Yelled!

And I Yelled, I Yelled!

Don’t waste your life working for others…

work for yourself

…and I don’t mean just having you own business. Even if you work in a business, work for yourself, because, you know, and I’m talking from experience:

“The ONLY person who cares about you and works for you is YOU!”

That was the advice I got from a coworker when I started a new job 17 years ago.

I still remember that conversation and my coworker was right. I was always working for the good of the team and was always the last one to benefit from training, from the promotions, from the better jobs. Why was that?

Because my employers always told me:

“Patricia, you’re the key person on the project, we can’t let you go for operational reason.”

Thus I had to let go when a great opportunity was knocking at my door…and you know what…it took me longer to get where I wanted to be.

So 17 years ago, when my coworker told me this, I decided that I would change the way I work. I decided to train my coworkers so I would have back ups when I was away on vacation or on training…or if there was a great opportunity to do something else.

I also decided that I was going to take the training I deserved. So I took as much training I could on project management, planning, leadership, etc..

I was preparing myself to work for myself.

And you know what, that’s what I do now. I enjoy it and I learn everyday. It keeps me young at heart.

So think of you as the most important person in your life and go for it!
