Today is a sad anniversary. One year ago, the world changed. I hope that one day, we can all live together. Be respectful of each other’s culture, beliefs. In memory, today:
Je suis Charlie
On the subject of respect, it is an essential quality, even more when you are in business. You want to treat people the same way you would like to be treated. This is one of my tips from yesterday’s post.
Here are 5 quotes I gathered about respect in business.
Respect your fellow human being, treat them fairly, disagree with them honestly, enjoy their friendship, explore your thoughts about one another candidly, work together for a common goal and help one another achieve it. No destructive lies. No ridiculous fears. No debilitating anger. –Bill Bradley
One of the elements of this quote I like is that you can respect people even if you disagree with them. Disagreeing does not mean that you are not respectful of others’ opinion. Agreeing on finding a common ground to build a business with your partner(s) is key and is respecting each other.
You can also agree to disagree and this is also a respectful way to work together.
Leaders who win the respect of others are the ones who deliver more than they promise, not the ones who promise more than they can deliver. –Mark A. Clement
This one reminds me of the famous quote I learned when I was studying marketing at University at the end of the 80’s. If you only have one lesson about client service, this is the best lesson I learned:
Promise good, deliver great
Respect yourself and others will respect you. –Confucius
This is also another important lesson to learn and although it looks easy to do, I can tell you that it took me years to apply it properly. I always have a tendency to help others without thinking about myself. I think it’s a mother thing or a generation thing…but maybe I’m wrong.
I learned how to apply this lesson when I was on an airplane, listening to the security measures. You know when they ask to put your mask on before putting it to your child? That’s when the light came on for me!
To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children, to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of one’s self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived–that is to have succeeded. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
For me, this quote is the result of applying quote no3. What do you think?
Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect. We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
This one is what I hope the world will do after Charlie!
I hope you enjoyed my food for thought for today.
